Review: Colnago CX-Zero Evo

colnago bike hire

So what’s it actually like in the saddle with Flyingeese? All our guests have the opportunity to ride the Colnago CX-Zero Evo Ultegra 11, which as far as we’re concerned is simply the best bike you can find for a week like this.

The marque itself is, of course, iconic. Colnago have been at the head of the pack for more than 60 years, and their latest carbon fibre models find them still very much at the top of their game. It’s hard to put your finger on what exactly makes for true class, but you know it when you feel it – and we’ve felt it on every Colnago we’ve ridden over the years.

We were looking for something quite specific when we were picking out the bikes that make up the Flyingeese stable. We wanted endurance and superlative ride performance – we offer trips for keen and committed cyclists, after all; but we also wanted some comfort too – you’re going to be in the saddle for hours, and there’s no point suffering unnecessarily.

The Colnago CX-Zero Evo blends these two requirements beautifully. You’ll really notice how smooth it is to ride, but just under the surface you can feel the power and performance ready to kick in whenever called upon; underpinned by minutely controlled handling. Everyone wants to find the right balance of vertical flexibility and lateral stiffness, and this is about as close as it gets.

The frame (which many Team Europcar riders chose for the 2015 Tour de France) allows a slightly more upright riding position than other similar models, which we appreciate. It makes for a more relaxed riding style – and the views around these parts are pretty special, too!

You are, of course, welcome to bring your own bike on a trip with Flyingeese – and, whatever the make, our team of mechanics will always be there to support you. But we’re not surprised that most of our guests opt to spend a week enjoying the considerable pleasures of a Colnago CX-Zero Evo.
